About refrigerator repair in Tampa Bay

Why refrigerators fail in Florida — and how we fix them.

A refrigerator failure in Tampa Bay is rarely a slow burn — between 90°F summer kitchens, brackish coastal air, and brownouts from afternoon storms, a sick fridge spoils a week of groceries fast. We've spent the last decade diagnosing residential and small-commercial refrigeration across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando, and the pattern is consistent: the same six or seven failures account for the overwhelming majority of service calls.

Our refrigerator repair is built around getting a definitive answer on the first visit. Every truck carries a full sealed-system tool kit, manifold gauges, megohm meter, and the most-failed OEM components for Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Sub-Zero, Bosch and the other brands common in this market. You get a flat-rate written quote before any work begins, and a one-year warranty on the parts and labor we installed.

If your fridge is warm but the freezer is cold, you're hearing the compressor cycle constantly, or you've found water pooling under the crisper drawers, book a diagnostic before food spoils — most weekday calls before 1pm are reached the same day.

Symptoms we fix

If your refrigerator is doing any of this, book a diagnostic.

  • Not cooling
  • Freezer warm
  • Ice maker out
  • Water leaking
  • Loud compressor

What's included

Every refrigerator job covers:

  • Sealed-system diagnosis
  • Inverter board test
  • Defrost cycle check
  • OEM part install

Common causes

The failures we see most on refrigerators.

Five to seven failures account for the vast majority of refrigerator service calls. Here's what we find on the truck.

  1. 01

    Condenser coils blocked

Tampa pollen, pet hair and humidity coat the rear or bottom coils within months. The compressor runs hot, runs constantly, and the box still drifts to 45°F+. Vacuum-out and a return visit if temps don't recover in 24 hours.

  2. 02

    Evaporator fan motor failure

When the freezer is cold but the fresh-food side is warm, the bulkhead fan in the freezer is almost always the cause. You'll often hear no fan noise at all when the door opens. 45–75 minutes to swap with the right OEM motor.

  3. 03

    Defrost system stuck

A failed heater, bimetal thermostat, or defrost board lets ice build on the evaporator until airflow chokes off. Telltale: heavy frost on the freezer back wall and slow warming on the fresh-food side.

  4. 04

    Inverter / compressor board failure

Summer brownouts wreck variable-speed inverter boards on Samsung, LG and modern GE. The compressor clicks, hums, and shuts down — sometimes with an error code (Samsung 22 C, 14 E; LG ER FF). Replace the board, not the compressor, on first failure.

  5. 05

    Door gasket pulling humid air

Coastal homes especially: a tired magnetic gasket lets humid air in, the evap ices over, and the box runs hot. Replace the gasket and reset the defrost cycle.

  6. 06

Water inlet valve or filter housing leak

Water pooling under the fridge or inside the floor of the freezer is usually a cracked inlet valve, a torn filter O-ring, or a frozen defrost drain line. Easy fix when caught early — floor damage when not.

  7. 07

    Ice maker assembly failure

Common on French-door Samsung and Whirlpool. Fingers stick, mold heater shorts, optic sensor fails. We usually replace the whole assembly because the parts cost approaches the assembly cost.

Typical pricing

Honest flat-rate ranges for refrigerator repair.

Real ranges from real jobs. You'll get a written all-in quote before any work starts — these are not gotcha estimates.

RepairTypical range
Diagnostic visit$89
Evaporator fan motor$245 – $365
Defrost heater & thermostat$285 – $425
Inverter / compressor board$325 – $545
Ice maker assembly$245 – $425
Water inlet valve$225 – $345
Door gasket (any door)$215 – $365
Sealed-system service (built-in)$545 – $1,250

Pricing reflects parts + labor for typical residential installs. Premium built-in units (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Miele) and sealed-system work run higher and are quoted individually.

Brand-specific notes

What we see on each brand of refrigerator.

Each manufacturer has its own characteristic failure patterns. Here's what to expect — and what to ask your tech about — by brand.

Samsung

Family Hub and French-door models — ice maker freeze-ups and inverter board failures dominate. Always check for firmware-related PCB faults before condemning hardware.

LG

Linear inverter compressor failures are common but often covered under LG's extended sealed-system warranty (10 years). We verify warranty status before quoting.

Whirlpool / KitchenAid

Evaporator-fan icing and defrost-board failures across the W10/W11 platforms. Parts on the truck — usually a one-visit repair.

Sub-Zero

Dual-evaporator defrost faults on 500/600/700-series and condenser fan failure in oceanfront installs. Factory diagnostic procedures required to keep residual warranty valid.

Bosch

800-series condensate-drain icing and inlet-valve faults. We follow the Bosch service mode procedure rather than guessing from error codes alone.

FAQ

Refrigerator Repair questions, answered.

Call 813-295-7400 for anything else — a real dispatcher will pick up.

Should I repair or replace my refrigerator?+

Rule of thumb: if the repair is under 50% of replacement cost and the unit is under 10 years old, repair wins. Built-ins (Sub-Zero, Wolf, Viking, Thermador) are almost always worth repairing — replacement runs $8,000–$20,000. We tell you honestly when replacement is the smarter call.

How long until my fridge is cold again after a repair?+

Most reach safe holding temperature (38–40°F) within 4–6 hours of the repair. Sealed-system repairs (refrigerant work) take longer to settle — we leave instructions and follow up the next day.

Why is my freezer fine but my fridge warm?+

Almost always the evaporator fan motor in the freezer or a stuck defrost system. Cold air is generated in the freezer and pushed to the fresh-food side; when airflow fails, the freezer stays cold and the fridge warms.

Do you service built-in and column refrigerators?+

Yes — Sub-Zero, Thermador Freedom columns, Bosch Benchmark, Miele MasterCool, Viking and Wolf. Built-in sealed-system work requires EPA-608 certification and brand-specific diagnostics, which we hold.

What if my refrigerator is leaking water onto the floor?+

Two likely causes: a clogged defrost drain (water backs up and overflows from the freezer floor) or a cracked water-line fitting at the inlet valve. Both are quick fixes if caught before flooring damage.
