Refrigerator Leaking Water on the Floor? 3 Likely Sources
Puddle in front of the fridge? Almost always one of three things — and only one of them is expensive.
1. Clogged defrost drain (most common)
A small drain hole at the back of the freezer floor carries defrost water to a pan under the fridge. When it clogs with food debris or ice, water overflows into the fridge and out the door. Flush with warm water and a turkey baster.
2. Cracked drain pan
The drip pan under the fridge can crack from heat cycling. Pull the front grille, slide the pan out, and check. $40 part if you DIY.
3. Water line fitting at door or filter
Plastic quick-connect fittings on the water line crack with age. Look for water tracking down the back of the cabinet — that's a fitting, not a defrost issue.
